How it works

You paste a token
The three parts are split apart and the header and payload are base64url decoded in the page.

The claims are laid out
You see the algorithm, the claims, and any timestamps the token carries, formatted for reading.

You check what you needed
Useful for confirming an expiry, an audience or an issuer while debugging.

Practical guidance

This decodes a token, it does not verify it. Nothing here checks the signature, so a decoded token is not a valid one.
A JWT payload is encoded, not encrypted. Anyone holding the token can read the claims, so never put a secret in one.
Tokens are credentials. Pasting a live production token into any online tool, including this one, is worth thinking twice about.
